Darth Vader Was Almost In Star Wars 7

Iconic ‘Star Wars’ villain Darth Vader almost made an appearance in ‘The Force Awakens’.

It’s no secret that ‘Star Wars 7’ villain Kylo Ren reveres Darth Vader… and for good reason – he’s one of the most powerful villains that galaxy far, far away has ever seen. But while the legendary Sith Lord is long gone by the time of ‘The Force Awakens’, it looks as though he’s really made his mark.

And he almost made a dramatic appearance…

According to Making Star Wars, there was an impressive lightsaber duel in ‘Star Wars 7’ which featured Darth Vader himself… but it was ultimately cut from the film.

“The sequence was to happen when Rey enters the ‘Forceback’ or flash back sequence at Maz’s Castle,” they explain. “Over the course of the production we heard rumors that there was an actor cast in the role as ‘Young Original Warrior’. The actor as Luke is still is not confirmed and neither is the person who played Darth Vader. In essence, we see Rey watch the fight from a new vantage point.”

Of course, there were plenty of rumours about this scene while ‘The Force Awakens’ was still in production… but while it never made it into the final film, it looks as though a new ‘Star Wars’ novel has confirmed it was a possibility.

“A new book has hit today called Star Wars The Force Awakens: Rey’s Story,” they revealed. “On pages 99-100 of the book we have the flashback reiterated with the missing sequence described here.”

And here it is in full:

“As she peered into the distance, she saw a man in black wielding a red Lightsaber. His face was covered with a mask, molded to approximate a human face. But the mask’s eyes were dead and empty. The man’s red Lightsaber clashed against a brilliant beam of blue. A young man with blond hair raised his own Lightsaber and fought furiously against the monster in black.”

But did J.J. Abrams ever film these scenes? And will they ever see the light of day?

For now, we’ll have to wait and see… but it’d make one hell of a blu-ray extra.

‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ heads to cinemas on 15 December 2017.
