Dave Bautista is teaming up with Samuel L Jackson for a new movie, with the pair joining the cast for Afterburn.

As per Deadline, the film is described as a “post-apocalyptic adventure story”, which is set “10 years after a solar flare has wiped out technology across the globe.”

Bautista will reportedly play Jake, an ex-soldier who “works as a treasure hunter recovering valuable objects from the old world for powerful clients. His latest mission is to team with freedom fighter Drea to recover the Mona Lisa before an unhinged warlord gets there first.”

Jackson is said to be playing a freedom fighter called Valentine, with JJ Perry currently set to direct the adaptation of the graphic novel. There is currently no release date or other cast news, but the project seems to be moving forward after six years in development hell.

Jackson was recently seen in Argylle as Alfie Solomon, which follows author Elly Conway (Bryce Dallas Howard) as she embarked on a journey of espionage as her spy novels begin to mirror real-life events.

In an exclusive interview with Digital Spy alongside co-stars Sam Rockwell and Bryan Cranston, Howard praised the action sequences and tone of the film, citing director Matthew Vaughn as a key player.

“[Vaughn] works so closely with Brad Allan, who's one of the greatest action directors of all-time, and he had choreographed all these incredible sequences,” said Howard.

“What was amazing was just getting to get exposed to all the things that they were planning. Brad, very sadly, passed away, but Matthew made sure to do right by him and I think it's part of the reason why the action set pieces are all the more spectacular.”

There is currently no release date for Afterburn; Argylle is in cinemas now.
