David Harbour gives promising update about Violent Night sequel

Stranger Things' David Harbour has offered a promising if cautious update on a sequel to Violent Night.

The festive film for grown-ups saw Harbour play a Santa Claus with an alcohol problem who takes up firearms to stop some Christmas-themed mercenaries. It released to generally good reviews and a decent box office taking last year.

Speaking to Collider to promote the Gran Turismo movie, before the acting union SAG-AFTRA joined the writers in striking, Harbour explained that some initial work had begun on the film before things were put on pause.

The actor said: "Before the writers' strike there was, you know, maybe something that came in.

"We'll have to see where it fits if they can resolve all these labour issues. If the studios would please go to the table and end these labor issues, we could shoot all kinds of things I'd love to give to the people! But yes, we're in process."

Harbour's quotes are quite ironic, as the strikes have not only not ended, but many more TV shows and films have had to pause production since.

One project Harbour will be filming once the strikes are over is the Marvel Cinematic Universe film Thunderbolts, in which he reprises his Black Widow role of Red Guardian.

"The script we have is really tight and really great and our director Jake [Schreier] thinks it's great," he said. "I started working on it already and it's phenomenal, it's hard to talk about these projects because I sound like such a dumb idiot because all I say is, 'that's great, the script is great' but it's true!"

"I'm blessed to work with the Duffers [brothers] who write the greatest scripts on television and these Marvel writers who are writing these epic, incredible stories," he continued.

"They're letting the Red Guardian do stuff he's never done before, that relationship with Yelena, we get to go into that more. It's funny and satisfying in a real emotional way."
