DC fans start petition to cast Shia LaBeouf as Robin

Those of you that thought Shia LaBeouf’s acting career had gone the same way as the dodo, Hayden Christensen, and Lindsay Lohan might want to have a little rethink.

LaBeouf is currently receiving rave reviews for his turn in ‘American Honey’ while he’s also just started filming his role as John McEnroe in ‘Borg vs McEnroe’, and now DC fans are adamant that he’s the man to bring Red Hood, otherwise known as the second incarnation of Robin, to the DC Extended Universe.

As has now become custom, an online petition over at Change.org has been created that’s emphatically entitled, “Cast Shia LaBeouf as Red Hood in the DCEU.”

The individuals responsible for the petition have come up with 5 reasons why LaBeouf would be a perfect addition to the DCEU, the first of which is that he is “willing to go the distance to be the best that his character can be in recent films.”

It then adds that it’s an “opportunity for him to show the world what an amazing actor he can truly be,” before then noting that Ben Affleck was despised when he was originally cast as Batman only to then be the best part of ‘Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice.’

The petition then concludes by reiterating just how skilled LaBeouf is as a thespian, insisting that he is “one of the most talented actors in Hollywood if you [have] seen his recent films,” before signing off with a point that highlights just how similar LaBeouf and the character of Jason Todd actually are.

The petition has already amassed 853 of the targeted 1,000 signatures.

It’s been confirmed that Jason Todd does exist in the DCEU, with his costume covered in graffiti from the Joker having debuted in ‘Batman V Superman’, while it’s also been revealed that he was killed by Jared Leto’s villain.

This doesn’t mean he won’t return further down the line in the DCEU, though, as in the comics Jason Todd is resurrected as Red Hood.

Unfortunately, LaBeouf has already admitted that Warner Bros. dismissed writer and director David Ayer’s attempt to cast the actor in ‘Suicide Squad’, which suggests that the studio will take some convincing to bring him into the DCEU fold.

A deserved Oscar nomination for his performance in ‘American Honey’ could help to change their mind, though.
