Production on Deadpool 3 has been forced to shut down in the wake of the SAG-AFTRA actors' strike.

According to Variety, cast and crew suspended filming on Friday (July 14) and joined members of the Writers Guild of America, who are also on strike, on the picket lines.

It's one of the first major movies to be impacted by the actors' strike.

Filming had begun on the highly-anticipated threequel in May, with fans recently getting a first look at Hugh Jackman's Wolverine on Tuesday (July 10) on set alongside Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds.

The two actors were seen in their superhero costumes, with Jackman in the classic yellow outfit that Wolverine is synonymous with in the original comics.

He's not the only Marvel star to be reprising their hero role in the third instalment, with Jennifer Garner back as Elektra, 18 years on from the 2005 spin-off film Elektra.

Deadpool 3 is currently scheduled to be released in cinemas on May 3, 2024, having had its release date moved forward when all other MCU movies were shifted back as a result of the writers' strike.

It's not yet clear whether the threequel will now have to move, but it will likely depend on how long the actors' strike goes on for.

As well as Jackman and Garner, Deadpool 3 is set to bring back pretty much everybody from the first two movies, including Morena Baccarin as Vanessa and Karan Soni as Dopinder, while other newcomers include Matthew Macfayden and Emma Corrin.

However, Zazie Beetz has denied that she's returning as Domino despite reports that she was also coming back.

Deadpool 3 is released in cinemas on May 3, 2024. You can watch the first two Deadpool movies on Disney+.
