Deadpool Gets A Christmas Themed Poster

Film fans around the world will start seeing a new ‘Deadpool’ poster in their local cinemas which gives them a chance to sit on the lap of Ryan Reynolds’ Merc with a Mouth.

The Christmas-themed standee will be set out in the US from Thanksgiving (that’s on Thursday, 26 November) to promote the new 20th Century Fox R-rated superhero movie set for release in February.

Over 1500 of the posters will be sent to cinemas across the UK, US, Canada and Australia, as well as other major markets. IGN got the scoop on this story after being sent one of the posters.

Deadpool is a very unique superhero, and that’s made him a firm fan-favourite. His abiltiies give him a self-awareness that regularly sees him break the fourth wall.

Combined with his humour and Ryan Reynolds’ delight in playing the character, the film has a lot of room for creativity when it comes to marketing like this. Recently Reynolds dressed up as the character for Halloween, producing this brilliant viral video.

'Deadpool’ will tell the story of Wade Wilson, who is left scarred physically and mentally after tests related to the Weapon X programme that also created X-Men member Wolverine.

Reynolds portrayed the character in the atrocious Wolverine spin-off movie from 2009, but his love and the love of Deadpool’s fans helped make a real adaptation a possibility last year when test footage “leaked” online.

'Deadpool’ also stars Morena Baccarin, T.J. Miller, Ed Skrein and Gina Carano. It is set for release in the UK on 4 February.
