Hot on the heels of such Marvel small-screen hits as ‘Agents of SHIELD,’ ‘Legion’ and the Netflix ‘Defenders’ shows, one of the comic label’s biggest hitters is coming to TV – but things will be a little different this time.

Yes, there’s a ‘Deadpool’ TV show coming, and it’s going to be an an adult-oriented animation for US network FXX – and while none of the team behind the 2016 blockbuster and its upcoming sequel are involved, there’s still some big name talent involved behind the scenes.

Marvel announced today that the series will be written and produced by Donald Glover and his brother Stephen Glover, best known for their previous small screen collaboration ‘Atlanta.’ A Golden Globe-winning actor for ‘Atlanta’ and a Grammy-nominated musician, Glover has some big roles lined up on the big screen including the upcoming ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming,’ the ‘Star Wars: Han Solo’ movie (in which he will play Lando Calrissian), and ‘The Lion King’ (in which he will voice Simba).

Whether or not this means Glover will be part of the show’s voice cast has not been mentioned.

Nick Grad of FX Networks says, “Donald Glover is an incredibly gifted and versatile artist who’ll bring the untitled Marvel’s Deadpool series to life with the same intense, singular vision as his breakout hit Atlanta. With the success of Legion, we’re looking forward to again partnering with Marvel Television to create a series that is bold, striking and entirely original.”

Marvel TV’s Jeph Loeb adds, “How much more fun could this be? Deadpool, Donald and FX – the perfect fit for the Merc with the Mouth! We’re thrilled that our relationship with FX that started with Legion continues with what is sure to be a groundbreaking show in adult animation.”

FXX broadcasts a number of adult-oriented animated shows including ‘Archer’ and ‘Major Lazer.’ 10 episodes of the as-yet untitled ‘Deadpool’ show have been ordered, and are scheduled to air in 2018 (when ‘Deadpool 2’ will also open in cinemas, on 1 June).
