It is unknown whether a new Deadpool film is officially happening – but one of its leading stars has now provided an update on its status.

Months after the character’s creator Rob Liefield claimed that the MCU had put the brakes on a third instalment, Morena Baccarin has said the film is “apparently” in the stages of being written.

“I have no idea – apparently, they’re still writing it,” she told Entertainment Weekly. “I genuinely don’t know. I have not been asked, or approached.

"There’s been no conversations yet, so I’m waiting with bated breath.”

It’s not promising news for fans of Ryan Reynolds’s foul-mouthed mercenary, and certainly suggests that the film is low down on the MCU agenda.

It will be the MCU’s first R-rated film following Disney’s merger with 20th Century Fox.

Paul Wernick previously stated: “Marvel has promised to continue to let us play in the R-rated Deadpool universe, and the hope is that they will also let us veer into the MCU a little bit as well and play in that sandbox.”

It was also suggested that the film’s delay could be down to Reynolds himself, who also serves as a producer on the film series.

“It’s got to be great,” Wernick continued. “I think once we collectively agree what idea that great idea is we’ll be off to the races.”

Deadpool 2 was released in 2018, and was a box office hit. It grossed $785.8m (£631m) worldwide.
