Deadpool & Wolverine almost included a Nicolas Cage cameo
Deadpool & Wolverine may have had its fair share of celebrity cameos, but there was almost another as Nicolas Cage was in talks to appear.
The MCU film, the third entry in the Deadpool franchise, follows the titular heroes - played by Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman respectively - as they team up to stop a malevolent force that threatens the galaxy.
With the narrative spanning across several different multiverses, there was plenty of room for various cameos. Cage, though, didn’t reprise his role as Johnny Blaze from Ghost Rider, leaving some fans disappointed.

Reynolds, however, revealed to Collider alongside director Shawn Levy that it wasn’t for the lack of trying, saying: “Yes [we considered bringing Cage back]. Came to a conversation for sure. Yeah, but no.”
Though the film has proved to be a critical and commercial success, Reynolds cast doubts over his future in the MCU, sharing that he and Levy made the film without a sequel or continuation in mind.
“I would say that Shawn and I have been pretty clear,” he said. “In the most loving way, because talk about the greatest uptown problem any human beings could have is a studio like that saying, ‘What’s next?’ Or ‘How can we make something else?’

“But this movie was made as a complete experience. It wasn’t meant to be a commercial for another movie. It wasn’t meant to be any of that stuff. And, I think I get a great deal of joy making a movie like that.
“But honestly, right in this moment, I have no idea if I’ll ever wear that Deadpool suit again — I hope I do — but I don’t know. Right now’s the time to just kind of hang it up for a bit and see what happens next.”
Deadpool & Wolverine is now playing in cinemas.
