Dear Evan Hansen has added another big name to its star-studded cast as Oscar-winner Julianne Moore has been cast in the movie adaptation of the Broadway musical.
She joins Amy Adams who will play Cynthia Murphy, the mother of Connor and Zoe Murphy, who will be played by Colton Ryan and Kaitlyn Dever respectively.
The Hunger Games and The Hate U Give star Amandla Stenberg has also been cast as high school senior Alana, a girl who appears to have it all but is actually hiding a very deep loneliness.
Alana features in the stage musical but her film role will be expanded, with Stenberg set to sing a new original song.
Ben Platt, who originated the role of Evan on Broadway and won a Tony for his performance, is expected to reprise his role for the movie.
Dear Evan Hansen opened on Broadway in 2o16 and has gone on to win multiple awards and critical acclaim. It centres around teenager Evan, a boy with social anxiety who starts writing letters to himself at the recommendation of his therapist.
When one of his notes is found with a classmate who has sadly died by suicide, people start to assume that Evan played a big role in the boy's life and he finds himself caught in a lie that he struggles to get out of as it keeps growing.
The Universal film will be directed by Wonder director Stephen Chbosky and written by Steven Levenson, who also wrote the book for the stage musical. La La Land producer Marc Platt is producing alongside Adam Siegel.
