The Dear Evan Hansen movie has signed Hunger Games star Amandla Stenberg for an expanded role.
The forthcoming movie adaptation is based on the hit Broadway show which originally starred The Politician actor Ben Platt and followed the story of a socially awkward teenager who pretends to be friends with a classmate who recently died by suicide and becomes popular as a result.
The film will be directed by Stephen Chbosky and The Wrap reports Stenberg will play the role of Alana, a high school senior who seems to have it all but is actually masking a deep loneliness and isolation.
Alana features as a character in the musical but in a lesser capacity than Stenberg will play on screen.
Stenberg's portrayal of the character will see the role expanded and feature a new original song sung by her, written in collaboration with Benj Pasek and Justin Paul.
The actress has previously starred in The Hunger Games, as well as The Hate U Give and Everything Everything.
Ben Platt is rumoured to be reprising his role as Evan in the film adaptation, while it's thought Booksmart and Unbelievable actress Kaitlyn Dever will play the role of Zoe Murphy.
It has previously been announced that Nik Dodani (Atypical) will play Jared Kleinman in the film adaptation.
Homeland actor Colton Ryan will also return to the role of Connor Murphy. No release date has been set.
