Through My Window 2, also known as Through My Window: Across the Sea, left fans devastated after its shocking ending, where Ares and Raquel's romantic dramas are overshadowed by an unexpected death.
The Spanish teen romance, based on the characters created by Ariana Godoy, returned to Netflix as a new chapter opened for the main couple in their first year of university. Unfortunately, they are not taking classes in the same country: Ares moved to Stockholm to study medicine, while Raquel stayed in Barcelona to pursue her dreams of being a writer.
As we saw at the ending of Through My Window, Raquel wrote a novel about her romance with Ares, but, will she have the courage to show it to the world?
All has been revealed in Through My Window: Across the Sea. Here's what happened, and how it sets up the already announced Through My Window 3.
Through My Window 2 ending explained
After many months apart, Ares travels back to Barcelona to spend a summer weekend with Raquel. The long-distance relationship has proven challenging and the sexting didn't quite work for them, so both of them are hoping to fix things in person.
However, their plans don't turn out as they wanted. As their friends and family show up at the Hildalgos' mansion by the beach, Through My Window 2 adds more stories.
Daniela and Apolo are happily dating, but she is fixated on the idea of having a threesome, which initially Apolo rejects.
Artemis is secretly dating Claudia, but can't bring himself to acknowledge her in front of his friends and family, as she is a member of the house staff. What is this, the 19th century? Rude.
Even Yoshi, who calls himself the "third wheel" of the group, will find a new exciting romance with Anna, even if his heart still belongs to Raquel.
Sharing their idyllic summer vacation with friends is one thing, but Ares and Raquel's relationship struggles with the arrival of Vera, one of Ares' classmates in Stockholm. She says she was passing by... on her family yacht. Yeah, sure Vera.
Turns out Vera is quite close with Ares, and they might have slept together, as Raquel finds out soon enough. As Ares explains, he was going through a rough patch and he got so drunk he doesn't even remember what happened that night. Not a good enough excuse, we reckon, because Raquel dumps him.
Deeply hurt not only for the cheating, but mostly because Ares didn’t talk to her when he was struggling abroad, Raquel decides to give a chance to the flirty Gregory, a classmate who has been pursuing her for months.
The climax of the movie arrives with the night of San Juan, a traditional celebration on the Spanish Mediterranean coast that takes place the night before Midsummer's Day.
All dressed in white, Daniela, Yoshi and Raquel head to the party on the beach to forget about their dramas. Daniela and Apolo finally decide to have that threesome, and Raquel finds a more intimate place to celebrate with Gregory and forget about Ares, who stayed at the house.
Yoshi feels like an idiot. He declined Anna's invitation to watch the fireworks together from the lighthouse so he could spend this special night with her two friends, who have left him on his own. So he decides to steal a bike (why not?) and drives like a maniac to the lighthouse.
That's how the tragedy strikes: losing control of the bike, Yoshi falls down a cliff and dies.
This shocking death arrives almost at the end of Through My Window 2, and changes everything for the main characters of the story.
At the funeral, Ares and Raquel have a fight. She criticises how Ares constantly hides his feelings. He blames Raquel for Yoshi's death, saying he wouldn’t have died if she hadn’t dump him at the party to be with Gregory. Ouch. It seems like this relationship is definitely dead.
It's not all bad news, though! Artemis finally finds the courage to hold Claudia's hand in public. His father's angry look doesn't go unnoticed.
Finally, in the last scene of the movie, Raquel finds out Yoshi sent her book to a publishing house. She's been meaning to do it all weekend, but was scared and never did. But Yoshi, her self-proclaimed agent, was the only one who read it and didn't hesitate. As it turns out, the publishers love it and want to publish the novel.
Despite the fantastic news about her career as a writer, Raquel is still hurting. She refuses to see Gregory, who came to visit her, and with a last look to Ares’ old bedroom she closes the window.
Is it over for the young lovers? We think not!
After the main credits, Netflix offers a first preview of the third and last instalment, Through my window: Looking at you. It's not much, but it shows Raquel and Ares sharing intense moments and touching their hands while dancing in a club.
The drama is not over!
