Dennis Quaid Flubs Saoirse Ronan's Name... But Do You Know How To Say It?

Dennis Quaid really doesn’t know how to say Saoirse Ronan.

The ‘Far From Heaven’ star managed to flub it spectacularly during the Golden Globes nominations announcement yesterday, dubbing her ‘Sheesha’.

She’s not a pipe, Dennis.

Quaid’s 'Adele Dazeem’ moment has now gone rather viral, but it does highlight the issue that a fair chunk of people don’t know how to pronounce her name.

She had said after her SAG nomination: “I’ve been lucky enough to be a working actor for almost 10 years and the mere fact that people can finally pronounce my name is pretty exciting!”

It would appear she spoke too soon, however.

The Irish name is actually pronounced 'Sersha’ (and her 'Lost River’ director Ryan Gosling put it 'like inertia’).

It may be a key name to remember, with awards season approaching.

Her performance in the drama 'Brooklyn’ has already scored her nominations in the Best Actress categories of the SAG Awards and now the Golden Globes.

Come the Oscar nominations on January 16, it’s likely that she could be a frontrunner for the gong, alongside the likes of Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara for 'Carol’ and Brie Larson for 'Room’.

The movie finds Ronan’s Eilis (pronounced 'Aylish’) who decides to leave her mother and sister in her small hometown in Ireland and make the journey to live in New York in 1952.

She first shot to fame in 2007 in her role as Briony in Joe Wright’s 'Atonement’, the actions of whom have devastating effects on those around her.

Since then, she’s gained notoriety for roles in Joe Wright’s thriller 'Hanna’ and Wes Anderson’s 'The Grand Budapest Hotel’.
