Diana film scrapped

A film about the death of Princess Diana is to be shelved indefinitely.

Keith Allen's documentary 'Unlawful Killing' was premiered at the Cannes Film Festival last year, but will now be scrapped over insurance issues which were to protect the filmmakers against many of the allegations made in the film.

“'Unlawful Killing' had been sold all around the world, including the U.S. But there was a specific form of insurance needed by the U.S. distributors to cover them for their U.K. and French offices,” a spokesperson told the Daily Mail.

“This proved impossible to secure. As a result of this the film has been withdrawn in perpetuity.”

The film, which was funded by Mohamed Al-Fayed, whose son Dodi also died in the car crash that killed Diana, was roundly panned by critics.

It made accusations over Prince Philip's involvement in the accident, and alleged a cover-up by British and French authorities.

It also referred to the Queen and Princess Margaret as being 'gangsters in tiaras'.

Allen told the press last year that lawyers said it would have had to have made 87 cuts in order to be released in the UK.

Naomi Watts, meanwhile, is set to play Diana in forthcoming film 'Caught In Flight', which depicts the Princess of Wales in her final years.
