Did Disney Steal The Idea For Wreck-It Ralph?

Disney have been hit with a huge $10 million lawsuit over where ‘Wreck-It Ralph’s’ story came from, with a writer claiming to have come up with the idea before Disney decided to rip it off.

It’s quite the claim, considering it’s only now emerged around three years after its cinema release, but Dyke Robinson believes that the Mouse House have nicked the ideas in a manuscript he originally submitted in 2012.

But therein lies the issue: there’s no way Disney’s animation team could have ‘stole’n any of his work because, as anyone who works in the film industry and indeed in animation is aware, ‘Wreck-It Ralph likely started three, four, or even five years prior to its release. This means there’s absolutely no way that the team would’ve had any opportunity to nick ideas, as it would have been far to late in the day to make changes or add bits a matter on months before it came out.

Regardless, Robinson still alleges he submitted his manuscript in 2012, but had it rejected by Disney, who then took his ideas. It also hasn’t deterred Robinson from seeking up to $10 million for the theft (and we use this term loosely) of his work.

Something tells us he’s not going to get rich off of Disney any time soon.

‘Wreck-It Ralph’ was nominated for an Oscar in the Best Animation category in 2013, receiving largely positive reviews from the critics. The movie itself went on to take almost half a billion dollars at the worldwide box office, leaving Disney with a cool profit.

Earlier this year, John C Reilly (the voice of Ralph) revealed that he’d signed up for a sequel but there’s been no official word from Disney about a follow-up happening just yet.
