Following ‘Captain America: Civil War’ there are a lot of questions regarding Steve Rogers, especially considering that he walked away and seemingly distanced himself from the character’s shield at its conclusion.
At the moment, we’re still in the dark about whether there will actually be a new Captain America instead of Steve Rogers going forward. But Sebastian Stan has given us our biggest clue yet that there might be huge changes ahead of the character, doing so with a solitary Instagram picture:
Sebastian Stan’s adjoining caption also added to the rumour mill as he wrote, “’Excuse me … where’s the restroom?’ A big thank you and shout out to Casey McBroom @shield_labs for making this for me. Will come in handy …”
The above image shows Bucky Barnes with his very own Captain America shield, and because of the post it’s hard not to jump to the conclusion that the Marvel Cinematic Universe will replicate the comics and see Winter Soldier step into Steve Rogers’ shoes.
This is something that as recently as October Kevin Feige teased. After being asked by Collider whether a ‘Captain America’ movie needs to star Steve Rogers, he responded, “It’s a good question and if we look back at the comic books as our inspiration and as the well from which this all springs then the answer is ‘no’.”
He then added, “I’m not saying we’ll do it in the movie but I’ve read ‘Captain America’ comics that don’t have Steve Rogers in them.”
However, it should also be pointed out that Casey McBroom’s Shield Labs doesn’t actually design costumes and weaponry for Marvel Studios, and instead appears to focus on Cosplay. While, at the same time, the fact that ‘Civil War’ also ended with the revelation that Bucky Barnes killed Tony Stark’s parents as The Winter Soldier and then saw him frozen in Wakanda, means that a lot needs to change before Barnes becomes Captain America.
In the end, it could just be that Sebastian Stan was looking to help out a pal with a teasing cryptic message, but instead broke the internet.
