Dillian Whyte vs Otto Wallin heavyweight fight ‘called off after WBC interim champion suffers shoulder injury’

Dillian Whyte’s heavyweight showdown with Otto Wallin has been called off due to an injury sustained by the Briton in training, according to reports.

Reigning WBC interim champion Whyte was due to face Swede Wallin at the O2 Arena in London on October 30, with the WBC stating that the winner of the Tyson Fury-Deontay Wilder trilogy bout must defend their title against the victor of that contest next.

Fury subsequently came out on top again with a brutal 11th-round stoppage in an instant classic in Las Vegas, before which he had stated that he was “not interested” in facing his mandatory challenger.

The Sun first reported on Wednesday that the Whyte-Wallin clash has now been postponed due to a shoulder injury suffered by Whyte in training that has left him unable to make the fight.

The likes of two-weight women’s world champion Chantelle Cameron, Croatian heavyweight Alen Babic and former British light-heavyweight champion Craig Richards were also slated to fight on October 30, with the fate of the entire card unclear at this point.

Whyte last fought in the unfamiliar surroundings of Gibraltar in March, when he successfully avenged his stunning defeat by Russia’s Alexander Povetkin with a dominant fourth-round stoppage.

Wallin previously faced Fury in the US in September 2019, losing on points after giving the self-proclaimed ‘Gypsy King’ a serious test and wound above his right eye.

That was the only loss of the 30-year-old’s professional career to date, followed by wins over American heavyweights Travis Kauffman and Dominic Breazeale.
