Disney is locked in a dispute with three of the US’s largest cinema chains, over its percentage cut of ‘Iron Man 3’s box office takings, reports The Wall Street Journal.

The House of Mouse is said to be asking for 60-65% of the standard ticket cost, despite the standard industry split being 50/50.

Cinema giants AMC Entertainment, Regal Entertainment and Cinemark USA have now suspended all advance ticket sales for the Marvel movie, until a deal can be met with Disney.

"It goes well beyond anything I have seen in my time in the industry,” AMC Entertainment’s chief executive Gerry Lopez told the publication. "It's enough for us to pause and push back.”

Disney, who recently added ‘Star Wars’ studio LucasFilm to their entertainment empire, have declined to comment on the issue.

AMC Entertainment, Regal Entertainment and Cinemark USA  account for nearly 12,000 screens across the US. The standard adult ticket cost in the is $12-15 (£7.85- 9.90).

‘Iron Man 3’ is out in the UK 25 April 2013.
