It might seem like we've all only just said goodbye to Obi-Wan Kenobi and Ms. Marvel, but Disney+ UK is already set to unveil its latest TV series from the lucrative franchise worlds of both Star Wars and the Marvel Cinematic Universe. First out of the blocks this month is She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, featuring Tatiana Maslany as Bruce Banner's cousin, with Rogue One prequel Andor bringing Diego Luna back to the galaxy far, far away later in the month.

Elsewhere, Dan Trachtenberg heads from 10 Cloverfield Lane to the plains of America in the 18th century for his Predator prequel Prey. There's considerably less throat-ripping in the other major movie release of the month — Pixar's Lightyear, heading to streaming after its cinema run earlier this year.

Here's what's arriving on Disney+ UK this month...

Original movies coming to Disney+ UK in August 2022

Lightyear (3 August)

Just a month after it arrived in cinemas, Toy Story spin-off Lightyear is due to be available to stream on Disney+. Styled in the vein of a classic space adventure movie, it is framed as being the film Toy Story's Andy watched that made him fall in love with space and encouraged his mother to buy him a Buzz Lightyear toy for his birthday.

Chris Evans — replacing Tim Allen — voices Buzz as he has to team with a ragtag group of devoted but untalented volunteers to fight off a robot invasion in order to correct a mistake he made years before. There's also a cameo for bona fide British astronaut Tim Peake.

Prey (5 August)

Four years after Shane Black's The Predator was greeted by critical raspberries, there's another attempt at reviving the franchise on the way. This time, though, it's something rather different. With 10 Cloverfield Lane director Dan Trachtenberg at the helm, Prey sets the action in 1719 and focuses on the Comanche people as they attempt to use their hunting skills to survive when a Predator lands near their home.

Amber Midthunder leads the cast as warrior Naru in what will surely be a breakout role, while former basketball player Dane DiLiegro embodies the intimidating physique of the Predator.

Lego Star Wars Summer Vacation (5 August)

This anthology special follows Finn and his friends as he takes them on a trip via the Galactic Starcruiser. He becomes separated from his buddies though and encounters the Force ghosts of Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker and Leia Organa. Bizarrely, they take the opportunity to tell him about vacation mishaps. Even more bizarrely, the cast for this special includes Weird Al Yankovic. This could get strange.

Bluey S3, Part 1 (10 August)

Having become a cartoon juggernaut in recent years, the latest run of Bluey now arrives on Disney+ in time for the summer holidays. The third season of the Aussie animation about the adventures of a blue heeler dog and its family has been split into two parts, with the first 25 episodes arriving this month.

I Am Groot S1 (10 August)

Before there was Baby Yoda, there was Baby Groot. After dancing his way through the opening sequence of Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2, the tiny tree is now fronting five original shorts for Disney+. Vin Diesel is still the voice behind the famous three words.

This Fool S1 (12 August)

Comedian Chris Estrada fronts this 10-part comedy series set in South Central Los Angeles. He plays 30-year-old Julio who is in an on-off relationship and works for a nonprofit seeking to rehabilitate gang members. When his ex-gang-affiliated cousin Luis gets out of prison, Julio and the rest of the family take him in.

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law (weekly from 18 August)

Tatiana Maslany steps into the green-hued world of 30-something attorney Jennifer Walters in the latest Marvel series to land on Disney+. Walters has begun transforming into her superhero alter ego, but fortunately has help in the shape of her cousin Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo). He might just have a little experience in the field of angry, green rage monsters.

Created by Rick & Morty writer Jessica Gao, the series looks set to have a more overtly comedic tone than other MCU shows and has a supporting cast which includes Jameela Jamil and Hamilton star Renée Elise Goldsberry.

Welcome to Wrexham (weekly from 25 August)

In November 2020, Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney bought Wrexham AFC — the third oldest professional football team in the world, currently competing in the National League. Welcome to Wrexham follows their attempts to pull the club back into the EFL, despite a complete lack of experience when it comes to owning a sports team.

The first two episodes will arrive on 24 August, with weekly new instalments after that.

Andor (delayed to 21 September)

Diego Luna's rebel pilot Cassian Andor was one of the standout new characters introduced in 2016's well-received Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. His activities in the field of intelligence are set to be the focal point of this series, in which Luna returns to the role. Described as being a spy thriller, the 12-part series follows an ensemble cast of rebel characters as they plot against the Galactic Empire.

The first two episodes will arrive on 31 August, with weekly new instalments after that. A second season, which will lead directly into the events of Rogue One, has already been confirmed.
