Disneyland fans decry hike in ticket price: 'Disney is run by Scrooge McDuck'

“The Happiest Place on Earth” wasn’t exactly cheap before, but a ticket to the Disneyland theme park just became even more expensive.

Disneyland Resort increased prices Sunday of daily tickets, annual passes and parking. The Los Angeles Times noted that the increase went into effect less than a year after Disneyland marked up prices by as much as 18 percent.

It now costs $104 for a customer to spend a single day at a single park, either Disneyland or California Adventure on days deemed to be in low demand. (As a way of trying to keep crowd size down, Disneyland theme parks have charged more on high-demand days, such as weekends or peak vacation dates, since 2016.) Tickets for days that are deemed to be in regular demand will now cost $129 instead of $117, while the most popular dates available will run fans a cool $149 per ticket. They were previously $135.

In June, Disneyland is expected to unveil its elaborate $1 billion Star Wars-themed land, called Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, which will feature two attractions on 14 acres.

Those increased ticket prices don’t include parking, which has jumped from $20 per day to $25.

Of course, none of those prices include the cost of Mickey ears, ice cream cones and other items that make a day at Disney complete.

Disneyland spokeswoman Liz Jaeger said in a statement, “We continue to provide our guests with a variety of ticket offerings to meet their needs, while helping us to spread visitation, better manage demand and deliver a great experience.”

Disney noted that it’s currently offering two limited-time promotional offers — one expressly for Southern California residents.

Still, some fans were devastated and bemoaned the price hikes. One person tweeted that “it’s become unaffordable for so many families.”

The name of the most miserly character in Disney universe was invoked: “Disney is run by Scrooge McDuck.”

“This is no longer the family place to be,” one fan complained. “This is ridiculous.”

Someone else likened the cost of going to Disneyland to that of attending a big-league athletic event: “Pretty soon it will go the way of pro sports season tickets and stadium food. Simply become unaffordable for most working-class families.”

“It’s not about making kids happy anymore, it’s about making money,” a mother lamented on Twitter. “Distasteful and sad.”
