Disney's new movie Ron's Gone Wrong looks to be earning itself comparisons to Big Hero 6 after releasing its first trailer.

Featuring the voice talents of Zach Galifianakis and Ed Helms (The Hangover), Olivia Colman (The Crown), Justice Smith (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom) and Jack Dylan Grazer (Shazam!), the upcoming film centres on the friendship between an awkward teenage boy and his robot.

So it's not too hard to see why it's being likened to the Oscar-winning 2014 film about Hiro and his robo-assistant Baymax.

More specifically, Ron's Gone Wrong tells the story of Barney, a middle schooler who finds day-to-day life a bit lonely. One day, his parents gift him with Ron, a walking, talking, digitally-connected device, which is referred to as a 'Best Friend out of the Box'.

There's just one problem, Barney's Ron is faulty and before long, his 'quirks' set the unlikely pals on an action-packed adventure.

Kylie Cantrall (Raven's Home), Ricardo Hurtado (The Goldbergs), Thomas Barbusca (The Mick), Deadpool 2's Rob Delaney and Black-ish's Marcus Scribner round out the cast, while Pixar veteran Jean-Philippe Vine and Arthur Christmas's Sarah Smith directs.

The movie comes from new studio Locksmith Animation and 20th Century Studios, and is being released by The Walt Disney Company.

"Getting BIG HERO 6 x THE MITCHELLS VS THE MACHINES x SPIES IN DISGUISE vibes," one fan wrote on social media shortly after it emerged online.

"Someone watched the scenes of Baymax malfunctioning in Big Hero 6 and asked 'What if the whole movie was like that?'" another joked.

"Ron's Gone Wrong looks like Robots meets Wall-E meets Big Hero 6 meets The Mitchells vs. The Machines! Ron is so cute even if he is dysfunctional," a third added.
