Venom 3 has added another impressive name to its cast, with Doctor Strange actor Chiwetel Ejiofor signing on.

The third installment in the Sony Marvel franchise will see Tom Hardy return once again as Eddie Brock/Venom, with longtime writer Kelly Marcel taking over as director and co-writing with Hardy.

Deadline now reports that Marvel veteran Ejiofor has joined the cast in an undisclosed role, joining fellow new addition Juno Temple (Ted Lasso), whose role is also unknown.

Ejiofor is perhaps best known for playing Karl Mordo in the Doctor Strange series, and received an Oscar nomination in 2014 for his lead role in 12 Years a Slave.

Meanwhile, last year Venom: Let There Be Carnage director Andy Serkis opened up about why he will not be returning for the third movie, admitting he is too busy with other projects.

“Look, I had a ball doing [Venom: Let There Be Carnage]," he told Slash Film. "Tom Hardy is such a good friend of mine, and I felt very proud of the work, and we had such fun doing it. To be the custodian of that franchise for a little while was great."

Serkis added: “I've got so many projects that I was just about to [work on], like Animal Farm for instance.

"We were just about to go into production with that, and then we delayed as Venom came up. I really have to be very on top of the ones that I've been building to do for such a long time.

“But I'm really delighted that Kelly's doing that. She's so in control of that material with Tom. The pair of them are such a great team to work with. I'm really excited to see what they're going to come up with."
