Donald Trump said Meryl Streep is 'excellent' in 2015 interview
Donald Trump didn’t always thing Meryl Streep is overrated.
In fact, as recently as 2015, the president-elect thought she was brilliant, it’s emerged, thanks to an interview unearthed from The Hollywood Reporter.
The Donald yesterday damned the actress in a series of tweets after she took the billionaire businessman to task during a speech at the Golden Globes for, among many other things, mimicking Serge Kovaleski, a reporter for the New York Times who has arthrogryposis.
Appalled, as many were, by his behaviour, she said: “It kind of broke my heart when I saw it and I still can’t get it out of my head because it wasn’t in a movie, it was real life.”
Striking back, Trump tweeted:
Meryl Streep, one of the most over-rated actresses in Hollywood, doesn't know me but attacked last night at the Golden Globes. She is a…..

Hillary flunky who lost big. For the 100th time, I never "mocked" a disabled reporter (would never do that) but simply showed him…….

"groveling" when he totally changed a 16 year old story that he had written in order to make me look bad. Just more very dishonest media!

However, it seems to be something of a volte face.
Speaking in an interview on a range of subjects for a cover interview in THR, he was pointedly asked ‘any actresses you love?’
“Julia Roberts is terrific, and many others,” he replied.
“Meryl Streep is excellent; she’s a fine person, too. The problem is I’ll name three or four or five and then the hundred that I know will be insulted, and I don’t mean to insult them.”
Streep has since, however, become over-rated. Sounds like someone wasn’t a fan of ‘Florence Foster Jenkins’.
