The Masked Singer fans have begged ITV bosses to make Donny Osmond a permanent part of the judging panel.

The US singer – who previously competed on the American version of the show – took a seat alongside Rita Ora, Jonathan Ross and Davina McCall on Saturday, and viewers loved him.

The programme opened with the news that regular judge Ken Jeong was away, with the actor appearing in a video message to say: “Hey guys, sorry I can’t be with you, but I'm in Hollywood.”

He went on: “But in my place I've sent you someone who placed first in the US Masked Singer..."

After a pause, he continued: "Sorry what? Second in the US Masked Singer. He's a living legend and my best friend so you'd better take care of my little boy."

Osmond’s approach and good guesses went down a storm with fans of the ITV programme, in which celebrities in various disguises sing for the judges in a bid to keep their anonymity.

“Donny Osmond should be made a permanent panel member,” one person said on Twitter.

“Petition for Donny Osmond to replace Ken for the rest of the series,” said another.

One person gushed: “He’s only been on for 12 mins, but I love him.

“Get rid of Ken and keep Donny.”

One fan suggested: “If this gets a season 2 please let Ken be replaced by Donny as Donny is less annoying and so much better than Ken at guessing.”

Osmond appeared in the first season of the US version of The Masked Singer last year.

He came second, where he was unmasked as Peacock.
