‘Downton Abbey’ Ending: Spinoff or Movie to Follow Series?

Downton Abbeyis ending after season six, PBS and Carnival films announced Thursday, but can fans look forward to more time with the Crawleys?

Executive producer Gareth Neame responded to rumors of a spinoff series or movie, confirming that while there are no set plans, he and creator Julian Fellowes are contemplating both ideas.

“Our position on that is that we would be very interested in that,” Neame said of a “Downton Abbey” movie on this morning’s press conference call with Variety. “It is definitely something that we’re contemplating. It would be great fun to do. I think it would be a wonderful extension.”

He added, “We haven’t made any plans for the show, but it is something that Julian [Fellowes] and I would be very interested to do, if we can get all of our ducks in a row.”

As for a spinoff, Neame would say only, “Yes, I can confirm that there have been rumors.”

He teased: “There are no definite plans to make a spinoff. But again, I wouldn’t rule it out.”
