The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have marked Prince Louis’ third birthday with an unseen portrait. Prince William and Kate have released a new photograph of their youngest child smiling on a red bicycle for his first day at Willcocks Nursery School.

The duchess, known for her photography, captured the sweet picture before Louis left for his first day at nursery wearing a navy jumper, a checkered shirt, and summer shorts. "Three tomorrow! 🚲," read the caption on the Kensington Royal post.

"Taken earlier this week by The Duchess before he left for his first day of nursery, The Duke and Duchess are pleased to share a new image of Prince Louis. 🎈"

Prince Louis' great grandmother, Queen Elizabeth, celebrated her 95th birthday this week and thanked those for their kind messages of support following her husband Prince Philip's death earlier this month.

“While as a family we are in a period of great sadness, it has been a comfort to us all to see and hear the tributes paid to my husband, from those within the United Kingdom, the Commonwealth and around the world," she wrote.

“My family and I would like to thank you for all the support and kindness shown to us in recent days. We have been deeply touched, and continue to be reminded that Philip had such an extraordinary impact on countless people throughout his life.”

Prince Philip "passed away peacefully" at Windsor Castle on 9 April aged 99 and was the longest-serving royal consort in British history.
