Dune 2 doesn't have any credit scenes – here's why
Dune: Part Two is out in cinemas now and it's already a box-office hit, so all eyes are on when Dune 3 gets confirmed.
Ever since the release of the first movie, Denis Villeneuve has expressed his interest in adapting book sequel Dune Messiah into a third movie. So you'd be forgiven for expecting some sort of tease in Dune 2 for the next movie in the form of a credit scene.
However, despite some future teases in Paul's vision, Dune 2 does not feature any credit scenes – but there's a good reason for that.
"The thing is that I wanted Part Two to be absolutely autonomous. I wanted [a] person to be absolutely able to enjoy Part Two without having seen Part One," Villeneuve told Inverse about the lack of a post-credit scene.
"There are little seeds in Part Two, that are projections... like seeds that what could happen in Dune Messiah, the third movie. But it's a bit like any people who know Dune Messiah will see those Easter eggs."
Anybody who has read Dune Messiah will know that the main tease for the third movie is the cameo from Anya Taylor-Joy as Paul's sister Alia Atreides.
Dune 2 makes a change from the novel to have Lady Jessica still pregnant at the end of the movie, but we know that Alia will play a major role in Dune 3. All she does in the sequel though is warn Paul in a vision that he's "not prepared" for his family's secrets.
It's easy to imagine another movie, such as an MCU outing, using this scene as a credit scene. But like Dune, which also didn't have a credit scene, Villeneuve makes it an organic part of the story instead.
