Dwayne Johnson thrilled to reunite with Emily Blunt for The Smashing Machine
Dwayne Johnson is excited to potentially team up with Emily Blunt once again on The Smashing Machine.
The action man is gearing up to play MMA and UFC champion Mark Kerr in Benny Safdie's solo directorial debut, while his Jungle Cruise co-star is in talks to play Kerr's wife Dawn Staples.
Speaking to Variety on the Oscars red carpet, Johnson said he couldn't wait to work with Blunt again.
"It's much different than what we did with Jungle Cruise, but I got to tell you there is no greater partner in our industry than Emily who I would want to have to rip this thing open. This is a long time coming, man," Johnson gushed. "It's with A24 and we'll shoot that next. I can't wait."
He went on to call the British star "one of my best friends and one of the greatest actresses ever".
In 2021's Jungle Cruise, a movie adaptation of Disney's attraction of the same name, Johnson played a steamboat captain who takes Blunt's scientist on a journey to find the Tree of Life.
While a sequel was announced shortly after its release, the Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle star had no update on its development.
"Possibly. Down the line, yeah, I'd wanna do it. Maybe, we'll see," he teased about the sequel.
Johnson is currently working with Disney on a live-action version of his hit animation Moana.
