Elizabeth Olsen will star opposite Alicia Vikander in an upcoming dystopian drama.

The Marvel and the Tomb Raider stars will play the lead roles in The Assessment, directed by French filmmaker Fleur Fortuné in her feature debut (via Screen Daily).

The film is set in a not-so-distant future where the world has been destroyed by climate change. In this scenario, life is controlled and optimised, and even parenthood and the desire of having children aren't left to chance.

When a successful young couple want to try for a baby, their lives are put under close scrutiny by a female assessor over the course of seven days.

This is Olsen's first movie role since returning as Wanda Maximoff, aka Scarlet Witch, in Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, released in May 2022.

In a recent interview, the actress has admitted she doesn't miss Wanda, a role she first played in Avengers: Age of Ultron in 2015 and has since portrayed in four more Marvel movies, animated series What If...? and stand-alone TV show WandaVision.

"I think it's been almost 10 years of playing her. And I've loved it," she revealed in a special Actors on Actors feature for Variety.

"And I think the reason why I am not calling Kevin Feige every day with ideas is because I'm really proud of what we were able to do. I think WandaVision was a really surprising opportunity."

She explained she is pursuing other opportunities at the moment and would feel "proud" of what she achieved within the MCU even if Marvel were to fire her.

Olsen is not reprising the role of Wanda in WandaVision spinoff Agatha: Coven of Chaos, focused on the character played by Kathryn Hahn in the series. Alongside Hahn, the upcoming show also features The White Lotus star Aubrey Plaza, Buffy's Emma Caulfield, Heartstopper's Joe Locke and Broadway legend Patti LuPone.

The Assessment doesn't have a release date yet.
