In addition to history-making firsts, the Biden-Harris inauguration ceremony was full of momentous fashion moments, with style icons Michelle Obama, Lady Gaga and Jennifer Lopez earning praise for their sartorial choices.
For the ceremony, the 22-year-old, a textile design student at Parsons in New York City, paired the embellished plaid coat with an oversized white statement collar and a burgundy dress by New York designer Batsheva.
The vice president’s stepdaughter completed the look with a pair of black leather gloves, black boots and a black mask.
Emhoff’s unique fashion choice was met with approval on Twitter, where hundreds of viewers expressed their love for the design student’s coat.
“Ella Emhoff’s coat makes me proud to be an American,” one person tweeted.
Another said: “The only fabric I will pledge allegiance to is Ella Emhoff's glittering coat.”
“Ella Emhoff’s inauguration coat needs its own ceremony,” someone else wrote.
