Emma Stone is in ‘early negotiations’ to play iconic Disney villain Cruella de Vil, according to reports.

The Hollywood Reporter reckons that the Oscar-nominated star of movies like ‘Birdman’ and 'The Amazing Spider-Man’ series is being circled to play the dastardly Dalmatian skinner in a live-action origin story.

There’s no director on board yet, but British writer Kelly Marcel, who penned 'Saving Mr Banks’ and the adaptation of 'Fifty Shades of Grey’, is working on the script.

It’s not the first time that the '101 Dalmatians’ scoundrel, who first appeared in the 1961 Disney movie, has been portrayed in the skin-crawling flesh.

Stone, not generally known for her villainous roles, will be going up against Glenn Close’s superb turn in the 1996 live-action movie, in which she played the head of a fashion house.

The movie is set to start filming later this year, and is among a number of live-action Disney projects in the pipeline.

'The Jungle Book’ is already on the way (due in April), with newcomer Neel Sethi as Mowgli, alongside Bill Murray voicing Baloo, Ben Kinglsey as Bagheera and Idris Elba as Shere Khan.

There’s also 'Pete’s Dragon’ with Bryce Dallas Howard and Wes Bentley, a new version of 'The Sword In The Stone’ and 'Tink’, starring Reece Witherspoon as Peter Pan’s sidekick Tinkerbell, along with the sequel to Angelina Jolie hit 'Maleficent’.
