The producers of 'The Social Network' Mike De Luca and Dana Brunetti are currently assembling the project, with various names already mooted to take the lead roles.

Contenders for the role of Grey are said to include Ryan Gosling, Michael Fassbender, Robert Pattinson, Henry Cavill and Eddie Redmayne.

It has also been reported that 'American Psycho' writer Brett Easton Ellis has expressed interest in penning the script.

EL James's book has become the fastest-selling paperback of all time, selling more than 31 million copies worldwide, interestingly, beating the Harry Potter series.
