The actor Erik Bauersfeld, who voiced the Rebellion’s Admiral Ackbar in both ‘Return of the Jedi’ and 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ has died at the age of 93.

According to his manager Derek Maki, he passed away at his home in Berkeley, California, on Sunday.

Bauersfeld was responsible for delivering one of the most iconic lines from 'Return of the Jedi’ – exclaiming 'it’s a trap!’ - while playing the fleet admiral, as the Empire forces turn on the rebels during the battle for the forest moon of Endor.

He also provided the voice for Bib Fortuna, the henchman of Jabba The Hutt who first welcomes C-3PO and R2-D2 to Jabba’s palace.

Then last year he was recruited by J.J. Abrams to reprise the voice of Ackbar for 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens’.

A radio drama producer as well as a voice actor, he was recruited for 'Return of the Jedi’ by Ben Burtt, the sound designer of all the early 'Star Wars’ movies, after he was shown a picture of the crustacean-esque rebel leader.

He also voiced Ackbar in the video game 'Star Wars: X-Wing’.

Elsewhere, he provided voices for movies including 'A.I. Artificial Intelligence’ with Steven Spielberg and Guillermo Del Toro’s gothic horror 'Crimson Peak’ last year.
