New evacuation route opens in Sumy Oblast for Ukrainians fleeing occupied territories

A new route for civilians to flee from occupied Ukrainian lands through Russian territory has been opened in Sumy Oblast, Sumy Regional Administration announced via Telegram on Nov. 21.

"Starting from November 17, for Ukrainians returning from the occupied territories through the Pokrovka checkpoint, the new bus route Sumy–Poltava–Dnipro is operational," the message reads.

The administration clarified that there are three major evacuation routes in the country overall: one rail and two bus routes.

Additionally, Ukrainians can use the daily Sumy–Kyiv train service, as well as the road transport from Krasnopillya to Zernove (Kharkiv Oblast).

“For the comfortable stay of people arriving from the occupied territories, an evacuation center has been set up in Sumy," the authorities added.

Previously, Ukraine’s State Border Guard Service spokesman Andriy Demchenko reported that about 100 people return to Ukraine daily from Russia through the Pokrovka checkpoint in Sumy Oblast.
