Evangeline Lilly sparks anger as she says she won't self-isolate

Evangeline Lilly has sparked anger after saying she isn’t self-isolating because of the coronavirus, which she dubbed “a respiratory flu”.

The former Lost star, 40, posted a picture of her morning cup of tea on Instagram, saying it was “#businessasusual”.

“Just dropped my kids off at gymnastics camp. They all washed their hands before going in. They are playing and laughing,” she wrote.

When fans questioned why her family activities were continuing as normal and asked if they were on lockdown, the actress said: “Not for this family.”

One fan pointed out the need to protect vulnerable people, saying a friend who had just finished chemotherapy had urged people to stay at home for the sake of others.

But Lilly, who has two young sons, replied: “I am living with my father at the moment, who has stage four lukemia (sic).

“I am also immune compromised at the moment.

“Some people value their lives over freedom, some people value freedom over their lives. We all make our choices.”

In another post, the Canadian actress said: “Where we are right now feels a lot too close to Marshall (sic) Law for my comfort already, all in the name of a respiratory flu.

“It’s unnerving.”

She went on: “Let’s be vigilant right now. And kind. Watchful and gracious - keeping a close eye on our leaders, making sure they don’t abuse this moment to steal away more freedoms and grab more power, but gracious with each other as we try to navigate the unknown dangers of a modern, global world and power structure.”

Many fans were outraged at the Avengers star’s comments.

“This is irresponsible,” said one person on Instagram, while another said the posts were “a danger to society”.
