Every single SERIES of Doctor Who ranked, by the fans

There's little love out there for Sylvester McCoy's debut run, which across its 14 episodes managed an average of just 5.8 out of 10. Ouch.

Though we feel it's been treated a little harshly over the years, the Paul McGann film remains seriously divisive, with an IMDb score of 6.4 out of 10.

With 7.13 out of 10, it's a surprisingly low placing for a mostly solid season. But for every 'Caves of Androzani' (8.75 out of 10), there's a 'Twin Dilemma' (5.3 out of 10).

Colin Baker's experimental second series was comprised of four connected stories, with a link of the Doctor being put on trial by his own people. It scores 7.14 out of 10.

The original, but according to Doctor Who fans, not the best. The show's first ever run – which spanned an epic 42 episodes – managed an average score of 7.17 out of 10.

Scores 7.25 out of 10. Fans love 'The Five Doctors' (8.1 out of 10) and 'Enlightenment' (8.05/10) but are cool on 'Terminus' (6.35/10) and 'The King's Demons' (6.55/10).

Peter Davison's first series has been judged his best, with 7.27 out of 10. The highlight was 'Earthshock' (8.5 out of 10), the lowlight was 'Time Flight' (6 out of 10).

"I don't want to go."

'City of Death' (8.9 out of 10) can't quite compensate for 'The Horns of Nimon' (6.2 out of 10) – season 17 ends up as Tom Baker's lowest-rated series, with 7.3 out of 10.

With 7.32 out of 10, 'The Dalek Invasion of Earth' (8.1/10) was your favourite from Hartnell's encore. Not much love for 'The Web Planet' (6.1/10) though.

Jon Pertwee's lowest-scoring series with 7.323 out of 10. Blame 'The Time Monster' (6.8) – you guys love 'The Curse of Peladon' (7.6/10) and 'Day of the Daleks' (7.9/10).

Tom Baker bows out with 7.34 out of 10. Most of the fan love is directed towards his final story 'Logopolis', which scores 7.9 out of 10.

The final and lowest-ranked Patrick Troughton series, season 6 is a mixed bag (7.36 out of 10), though his epic final story 'The War Games' earns an 8.5/10.

From Troughton's last to his first: it's 7.38 out of 10 for this season, most of which was sadly wiped by the BBC (though audio recordings survive, allowing us to judge).

It starts off strong with bona-fide classic 'The Horror of Fang Rock' (8.2 out of 10) but it's pretty much downhill from there, earning season 15 an average of 7.4 out of 10.

This series is Hartnell's best according to you lot, with 7.41 out of 10. A fair ranking, we reckon, what with classics like 'The Daleks' Master Plan' (8.1 out of 10) in the mix.

Doctor Who's first attempt at a linked series of stories scores higher than 'The Trial of a Time Lord' – it's 7.426 out of 10 for Tom Baker's 'Key to Time' season.

Jon Pertwee's long goodbye, season 11 scores 7.43 out of 10. Sarah-Jane's arrival in 'The Time Warrior' (8.1 out of 10) stands out as a highlight for fans.

More Pertwee, this series established the Master, Jo Grant, the 'UNIT Family' and a lighter tone. It scores a solid 7.5 out of 10 overall.

The final series from the classic show and another leap in quality for McCoy, with 7.6 out of 10. Fans who voted particularly loved The Curse of Fenric' (8.2 out of 10).

The "base under siege" year – almost every story sees the Doctor defend a high-tech HQ from monsters – this series of Doctor Who earns a score of 7.783 out of 10.

Bookended by popular hits 'The Three Doctors' (8.1 out of 10), and 'The Green Death' (8.2 out of 10), the show's 10th anniversary year scores an average of 7.8 out of 10.

Peter Capaldi's first series is the lowest-ranked entry from post-2005 Doctor Who. But it's still in the top 15 and scored 7.9 out of 10, so it's not as bad as all that.

Matt Smith's third series is his least popular, with 7.92 out of 10 – 'The Angels Take Manhattan' and 'The Name of the Doctor' both score an epic 9.1 out of 10, though!

The latest series ranks high across the show's history, with 7.96 out of 10. Not too shabby! (Your favourite episode was 'World Enough and Time', with 9.3 out of 10.)

David Tennant's first series just misses the top 10, with an impressive average of 8.021 out of 10. 'The Girl in the Fireplace' and 'Doomsday' tie for best ep, both with 9.3/10.

Russell T Davies revives Doctor Who and storms straight into the no. 9 spot with 8.07 out of 10 – good going! The top-rated episode was 'The Empty Child' (9.2/10).

Of course it's 'Blink' that was your highlight from series 3, with a near-perfect 9.8 out of 10 score. The series itself lands in 8th place with an 8.1 out of 10 average.

Doctor Who aired four specials between 2008 and 2010, scoring an average of 8.22 out of 10: Tennant's finale, 'The End of Time - Part 2', was your favourite with 8.9/10.

Matt Smith's first series – and Steven Moffat's first as showrunner – averages at a very strong 8.246 out of 10. Best episode? 'Vincent and the Doctor' (9.3/10).

The two highest-ranking entries from the classic series – and they're tied! Both averaged at 8.25 out of 10. Talk about yer consistency from the Philip Hinchcliffe era.

Surprised? 'Heaven Sent' and its 9.6 rating might've helped series 9 score 8.31 out of 10, but almost every other episode scored 8 out of 10 or above.

Big Finish is reviving the Tenth Doctor and Donna.
