‘Everybody Loves Raymond’ Creator & Cast Remember Sawyer Sweeten

UPDATED: Sawyer Sweeten and his twin brother Sullivan were one year old when they were cast, along with their older sister Madylin, on the CBS family comedy Everybody Loves Raymond, inspired by the life of star Ray Romano, also a father of twins. The Sweeten brothers spent virtually their entire childhood on the set of Everybody Loves Raymond, growing up in front of America’s eyes. The twins were 10 when Raymond ended its run in 2005 after nine seasons, and had stayed largely away from Hollywood and out of the limelight until Sawyer took his life on Thursday morning. Here is what Everybody Loves Raymond creator Phil Rosenthal as well as series stars Ray Romano and Patricia Heaton, who played Sweeten’s parents, and Doris Roberts, who played his grandmother, said about Sawyer following his tragic death:

“We knew and loved Sawyer as a little boy. He and his real life siblings Sullivan and Madylin were such a charming, integral part of our TV family. They never failed to make us laugh, or remind of us how we feel about our own children. We are terribly sad to hear this news and our hearts go out to Sawyer’s family.” – Phil Rosenthal

“(I am) shocked and terribly saddened by the news. He was a wonderful and sweet kid to be around. Just a great energy whenever he was there. My heart breaks for him, his family and his friends during this very difficult time.” – Ray Romano

“Sawyer Sweeten was a funny and exceptionally bright young man. He is gone from us far too soon. The entire cast of Everybody Loves Raymond is in shock. Prayers for the Sweeten family.” – Patricia Heaton

“It is with great sadness that I learned the news that Sawyer Sweeten, who played my grandson Geoffrey Barone on Everybody Loves Raymond, died at his family’s home in Texas. He was a very sweet young man who will be dearly missed. Make sure your loved ones know how much you care about them, and please check in with them if you haven’t touched base with them for a while. It’s very important to keep in touch.” – Doris Roberts
