Evil Dead Rise confirms Netflix UK release date

Evil Dead Rise is set to drop on Netflix UK later this month.

As mentioned in Netflix's 'Coming Soon' section, the movie will arrive on Thursday, September 21.

Released earlier this year to great applause, including a five-star review from Digital Spy, director Lee Cronin's revival of the Deadite demons has taken $146.7 million at the global box office so far – the highest amount to date in the franchise.

Cronin previously said that he chose to relocate the Evil Dead Rise action from a woodland cabin to a Los Angeles apartment block because he wanted to "do something new" with the series.

"As much as I said I always wanted to make an Evil Dead movie, if the guys had put a script in front of me and said: 'Here we go: it's at the cabin, it's with Ash,' I probably would have said no, because I want to tell my own stories," he explained.

"But they didn't want that either."

Cronin added that "the horror of the domestic" appeals to him and felt the story was relatable, because while "not everybody's spent a weekend in a cabin in the woods with their friends... at some stage everybody's had a sense of home, or had their version of a family unit around them".

As for whether his movie connects to the four previous Evil Dead films, the director revealed that his movie's Necronomicon could be a connection to others.

"There are connections to the past, lines are drawn. In one of the early meetings I had with Sam Raimi, I said, 'You know the way in Army of Darkness, there's three [Necronomicons]? You had one, Fede [Álvarez, director of the 2013 remake] had one, I'm going to take the other one,'" he noted.

"It gave me that platform to nudge things forward, and also to showcase that we live in a world where there is more than one copy of the Necronomicon.

"Those books may all have slightly different personalities – it's not exactly the same book, necessarily, that Ash had in the cabin. But it's very, very firmly related."
