Ewan McGregor Forgets His One Line From The Force Awakens

Did you know that Ewan McGregor was in ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens?’ If not, don’t worry, as it seems the actor himself has all but forgotten about it.

The 45-year old actor very briefly reprised his prequels role of Obi-Wan Kenobi in the 2015 mega-blockbuster; though we don’t see him, his voice can be heard speaking a single line to to Daisy Ridley’s Rey during a Force-induced vision.

However, whilst appearing on The Graham Norton Show, McGregor couldn’t even remember what that one line of dialogue was.

The ex-Obi-Wan confessed, “I don’t remember where I speak, no idea. I think the beginning of the line is… the character’s name is Rey. I’m really struggling here. So they wanted a line of dialogue that said ‘Rey…’”

Indeed, the line is not even 100% McGregor, as existing dialogue from original Obi-Wan actor, the late Alec Guiness, was initially utilised.

McGregor explains they took the sound from a sample of Guiness saying ‘afraid:’ “So it’s Alec Guinness saying ‘Rey’ and then me saying that other line.”

Norton finally informed him the full line was “Rey, these are your first steps.” This very brief moment has sparked a slew of fan theories about how Rey and Obi-Wan might be related.

Still, McGregor can be forgiven for not being too clued up on all things ‘The Force Awakens,’ given how little work he did on the film, and how late in the day he became involved.

“J.J. Abrams emailed me out of the blue … it was about two weeks before the film was released, so it was obviously sort of last minute.”

McGregor will soon reprise another of his most famous roles in the sequel to ‘Trainspotting,’ in production this year.
