Ewan McGregor supports 'Star Wars' actor Moses Ingram after racist abuse

Ewan McGregor has come out in support of his Obi-Wan Kenobi co-star Moses Ingram after she became the victim of racist abuse online.

On 31 May, Ingram posted screenshots on her Instagram account of various messages she had received from trolls that featured an array of racial slurs.

In a video posted to the official Star Wars Twitter account, McGregor hit out at the people abusing Ingram: "It seems that some of the fanbase … has decided to attack Moses Ingram online sending the most horrendous, racist DMs.

"I heard some of them this morning and it just broke my heart."

McGregor also praised Ingram as a "brilliant actor, she's a brilliant woman and she's absolutely amazing in this series.

"She brings so much to the series, she brings so much to the franchise. It just sickened me to my stomach to hear that this had been happening."

He went on to say: "As the leading actor in the series, as the executive producer on the series, that we stand with Moses. We love Moses.

"And if you send her bullying messages, you're no Star Wars fan in my mind. There's no place for racism in this world. I totally stand with Moses."

Ingram also received a message of support from the official Star Wars Twitter account: "We are proud to welcome Moses Ingram to the Star Wars family and excited for Reva’s story to unfold.

"If anyone intends to make her feel in any way unwelcome, we have only one thing to say: we resist. There are more than 20 million sentient species in the Star Wars galaxy, don't choose to be a racist."

In Obi-Wan Kenobi, Ingram plays the villainous Reva Sevander who is attempting to capture the eponymous Jedi.

Ingram isn't the first Star Wars actor to receive online abuse. Kelly Marie Tran and John Boyega were both harassed following the release of The Last Jedi.

The abuse caused Tran to delete her social media accounts and Boyega criticised Disney for how they handled the backlash to his and Tran's characters.
