Death in Paradise's boss has said he "would not rule out" a possible spin-off for Danny John-Jules' character.

The actor, who played policeman Dwayne Myers on the series, left the show in 2018 – though he has expressed desire to return to the role in his own show.

Speaking exclusively about the possibility to Digital Spy, executive producer Tim Key said: "Danny's a friend of the show, and he did it for seven years, and Dwayne's an amazing character.

"I would not rule anything out. I think if we had the right story for anybody, we would look at it.

"But it's also about driving the show forward and evolving it. Again, there's no plan to do that at all for the moment. But Danny's brilliant. I would never say never to anything. It would be nice to do that again."

Danny said himself back in 2018 while speaking to TV Times: "I have an idea, but I just need to meet up with the producer, Tony Jordan, to touch base and run it past him."

Meanwhile, the current series of Death in Paradise will see the departure of Ardal O'Hanlon as DI Jack Mooney, and the actor recently opened up about his reasons for leaving the show.

"There's never just one specific reason, but I feel like I overstayed my welcome and it was four summers of my life spent away from my family. They need me!" he said to Metro.

"I feel like you can get too much of a good thing, and I think this is the kind of show that traditionally has always changed the lead, because it is a very demanding job and you are away from home for huge periods of time.

"You know, something has to give, and also in terms of the character, I don't think [there] was anywhere else for it to go, really."

Death in Paradise airs on BBC One. You can also catch up on series 1-8 on Amazon Prime Video.
