Exclusive: Hollyoaks star Kelle Bryan discusses Dr Ley's arrival in the show

Hollyoaks spoilers follow.

Hollyoaks star Kelle Bryan has promised a big new drama for the Deveraux family as the sinister Dr Ley arrives in the village.

Thursday's E4 first look episode (January 21) ended on a surprising note, as Celeste Faroe made contact with Dr Ley and begged her to come and fix her brother Toby.

Celeste (Andrea Ali) made the drastic move after Toby (Bobby Gordon) considered murdering their mum Martine by trapping her in the garage and pouring petrol around the outside of the building.

Although Toby backed down from starting a fire when his sister intervened, Celeste decided that Dr Ley was the only person capable of getting him back on the right track.

Hollyoaks fans know that Dr Ley conducted a cruel childhood experiment on the Faroes. While Toby was treated badly, Celeste was treated well and this planted the seeds for Toby's current anger issues.

Kelle, who plays Martine, exclusively told Digital Spy: "I think for the viewers, Dr Ley's arrival is going to be brilliant. They're going to really unpack what happened to Toby and you're going to see the person who put him through that.

"You'll see who Dr Ley is too. You'll find out some interesting things about her. She's not so clean!

"Obviously Martine isn't aware of any of that going on around her, but when she finds out, I think it'll be like an old-fashioned John Wayne movie with a stand-off!"

Kelle also reflected on Martine's lucky escape, as she narrowly missed becoming Toby's next victim thanks to Celeste stepping in.

Kelle laughed: "It's so funny because I've had people saying: 'Are you leaving Hollyoaks? Toby's about to kill you, did you not know?' It makes me laugh!

"From Martine's perspective, she doesn't realise how close she came to being killed. She doesn't know about Lisa's death. All she knows about Toby's temper is the time that he attacked Felix.

"But that's all she knows Toby is capable of. She knows he can lose his temper, but losing his temper with his dad was understandable after everything that had happened.

"Martine doesn't think she was in that much danger. She thinks it was just Toby acting out and being childish. That's how she sees it, so she wasn't afraid for her life."

Kelle also hinted at a big new storyline for Martine and the rest of the family in the coming weeks.

She teased: "Fortunately, I always knew Martine wasn't going to die in these episodes, because I know what's coming up for Martine and the Deverauxs later in the year and it's quite significant.

"It's quite heavy. There's quite a lot of twists and turns that happen and I'm prepping for a lot of that now, because it will require a lot of me."

Hollyoaks airs weekdays at 6.30pm on Channel 4, with first look screenings at 7pm on E4. The show is back to airing five nights a week again.
