Exclusive: Neighbours' Benny Turland on Hendrix's fears over death threat

From Digital Spy

Neighbours spoilers follow for UK viewers.

Neighbours star Benny Turland has revealed how Hendrix Greyson fears for his life in the show's gambling debt storyline.

Next week's episodes on Channel 5 see Hendrix panic as dangerous Kane Jones (Barry Conrad) sends him a death threat.

In upcoming scenes, Hendrix ends up owing $10,000 to Kane after another risky blackjack game goes wrong for him.

Kane immediately starts putting on pressure for the debt to be repaid quickly, making it clear that he's not to be messed with.

Speaking to Digital Spy about the storyline, Benny explained: "Hendrix is on his own now that Pierce has left. He has never been given this amount of responsibility before.

"He has to pay rent and make money, so he got into gambling as an easy way to make some cash. But Hendrix does eventually see just how much backlash can come from it.

"To start with, Kane comes across as a cool guy to Hendrix. Hendrix likes his vibe and thinks he's cool. He knows Kane is a bit dodgy but he has style.

"But then Hendrix sees the other side to him and realises that he's quite dangerous. It scares the hell out of Hendrix when Kane starts making threats, because he has no idea who this guy is or what he's capable of."

With the situation looking dire, Hendrix's friend Jay Rebecchi (Dhruv Malge) suggests he should steal the expensive necklace that Pierce bought for Dipi last year.

Benny continued: "Hendrix feels a little bit guilty, but he doesn't have any emotional connection to this necklace.

"He makes a snap decision to take it and give it away to pay the debt. As far as he's concerned, it's all for the cash and it's fine."

The actor also praised the strong friendship that continues to develop between Hendrix and Jay as the high-stakes situation plays out.

Asked whether he'd like Jay to become a regular character, Benny replied: "I do really enjoy the relationship between Hendrix and Jay. It's quite nice how they look out for each other, so down the track I'd enjoy playing that relationship again for sure.

"Jay is there for Hendrix throughout the story. No matter what Hendrix does or says, Jay is always there for him and has his back. That's not something Hendrix is used to.

"It was a lot of fun to play around with that. Jay and Hendrix had a weird dynamic with their families at first after everything that had gone on, so it was a strange transition but they both had something relatable there to fall back on.

"It was fun working on that with Dhruv and trying to figure out what their friendship would be like and where they stand."

Neighbours airs weekdays at 1.45pm and 5.30pm on Channel 5 (UK) and 6.30pm on 10 Peach (Australia).
