Extraction 2 will "up the scale" on Netflix's hit movie, says writer Joe Russo
Extraction writer Joe Russo has teased that the action-thriller's upcoming sequel will "up the scale" in every way possible.
Based on the graphic novel Ciudad by Ande Parks, the first film followed Tyler Rake (Chris Hemsworth), a black market mercenary who is forced to carry out his most dangerous mission yet - rescuing the kidnapped son of a notorious crime lord.
According to Russo, the follow-up is set to take place both before and after the original adaptation, as it delves into Rake's past, as well as what happened after the events of the 2020 outing.

"I started writing three weeks ago," he recently revealed to ET Online. "It's a great character to write for, with a fantastic performance from Hemsworth. So it makes my job easier. I think the mission is to up the scale on this one, both emotionally and physically."
Elsewhere in the interview, Russo chatted about his new Instagram Live series Pizza Film School, which he just launched with his filmmaking partner and real-life brother Anthony Russo. He also opened up about how eager he is for the two of them to start "exploring a new chapter in [their] lives" post COVID-19 and their success within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

"Like all industries, the pandemic will transform the way we make movies. New technologies will be accelerated as we look for ways to control and make safe the shooting environment," he explained.
"Our only motivation moving forward is finding great stories to tell. Stories that move us, make us think, challenge us and ask questions about the state of the world."
