Zac Efron will reportedly star in the upcoming Three Men and a Baby reboot for Disney, news which has been broadly welcomed.

The actor will lead the cast in the new Disney+ project, marking his first return to the studio since the High School Musical films.

It comes following a series of more adult-orientated movies for Efron, including playing serial killer Ted Bundy in Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile.

As the Hollywood Reporter revealed, the film will head directly to the streaming platform. The rest of the cast has yet to be announced.

The reboot's director has yet to be confirmed, although Gordon Gray who recently worked on the Ben Affleck film Finding the Way Back will act as producer.

Three Men and a Baby – which was itself a remake of the French film Trois Hommes et un Couffin – starred Steve Guttenberg, Ted Danson and Tom Selleck as three bachelors adapting to fatherhood following the surprise arrival of a child in their lives.

Fans have been reacting positively to the news on social media, with some struggling to contain their excitement.

“As a Three Men and a Baby stan I GASPED,” one wrote. Another user added: “When I tell you I SCREAMED at the news of Zac Efron starring in a Three Men and a Baby remake for Disney+ you better believe I FULLY SCREAMED.”

One more added: “Three Men and a Baby is a classic, and I for one welcome a Zac Efron remake with open arms.”

Elsewhere, Efron recently appeared in the Netflix documentary series Down to Earth, in which he travels the world and explores notions of sustainability.
