Fantasic Four Trailer Breaks Fox Record With 42 Million Views

‘The Fantastic Four’s debut trailer is the most successful ever for 20th Century Fox, eclipsing even ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ with its 42 million views in just a matter of days.

Producer and writer Simon Kinberg (who seems to talk about the films he’s working on more than he actually works on them) commented on the trailer’s success.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Kinberg said: “We took our time with that trailer. What we were trying to tell people was: here’s the tone of the movie.

"My favorite trailers are the ones which set the world, the tone, the voice of the movie, without telling you too much about the story."

He also talked about the films’ influences, further promoting the fact that Marvel Comics’ ‘Ultimate Fantastic Four’ series was the biggest inspiration for his and director Josh Trank’s work. “It’s totally different from what the previous movies had done,” he said referencing the goofier films from 2005 and 2007, “And it’s much more akin to what the ‘Ultimate Fantastic Four’ series did.”

The biggest influence from ‘Ultimate Fantastic Four’ appears to be the origin, which replaces space travel with inter-dimensional travel. The trip sees our four heroes Reed Richards (Miles Teller), Sue Storm (Kate Mara), Johnny Storm (Michael B Jordan and Ben Grimm (Jamie Bell), not to mention future Dr Doom Victor Domashev (Toby Kebbell), visit the “N-Zone” - another dimension curicial to the plot, and where each gains their powers.

The trailer’s performance is no doubt impressive, but a large part of why it attracted such numbers is curiosity rather than anticipation. The project had a troubled time in the public eye during its production, and this first glimpse was a good opportunity to see something tangible.

Fox will be hoping that curiosity turns into ticket sales come the film’s release on 6 August.
