Fantastic Beasts star Dan Fogler has given fans an update on when the next movie in the franchise will start filming – and it looks like things will be getting under way next year.

The new outing is set to buck the trend of Fantastic Beasts movies being released two years apart, with the sequel hitting screens in November 2021 following The Crimes of Grindelwald's release in 2018.

"We all believe this release date will give the filmmakers time and space to allow their artistry to truly flourish and deliver the best possible film to our fans," Warner Bros said earlier this year.

And things will finally get going in a few months, with Jacob Kowalski star Fogler confirming just when production starts.

"We haven't started filming yet. We start in February," he said at LeakyCon 2019 Boston (via ComicBook.com).

"Last we heard, JK [Rowling]... she's been writing furiously. Everyone was really happy with what she submitted, and we're all just waiting for the new script. And that's where we're at."

Fogler also revealed his hopes for his No-Maj character in the third movie, especially after love interest Queenie joined forces with the titular villain in The Crimes of Grindelwald.

"I hope that he gets Queenie back," he continued. "I haven't seen a script yet, and I've lost a significant amount of weight, and I think it will be funny if – you know how she put a spell on me to follow her around like a puppy? What if she also put a spell on me to get fit?

"So there's that. But also, on a philosophical level, it'll be interesting... We're in the middle of the Depression, he's just on a bender of loss. He lost her... I'm just saying this is the thing that I have in my head, that he's lost his appetite."

Fantastic Beasts 3 will hit cinemas on November 12, 2021.
