'Fartgate' trending after congressman appears to break wind during live interview
During a live interview on Hardball With Chris Matthews Monday night, US politician Eric Swalwell appeared to break wind.
Swalwell claimed it wasn’t him, but a lot of people think that just sounds like hot air. That may have something to do with the appearance of a physical reaction from the congressman as it happened.
Answering a question about the impeachment inquiry into President Trump’s dealings with Ukraine, Swalwell said, “Chris, so far the evidence is uncontradicted that the president used taxpayer dollars to ask the Ukrainians to help him cheat…”
And that’s when it happened. Whatever came next didn’t matter to anyone wondering if they’d just heard what they thought they heard. Swalwell may claim to not be the culprit, but that didn’t matter to those on Twitter as it didn’t take long for #fartgate to start trending.
Reactions were wide-ranging. Some long-winded, some not. But pretty much everyone agreed it was funny.
I’m an adult, I swear.... but these #fartgate tweets are making me cry laugh for reals!!! pic.twitter.com/ykdlXXk3GM

I don't care who you are, if you cannot laugh at #fartgate, you are broken and need to be fixed. It was funny. Even better, however, was that Swalwell didn't miss a beat.
