Felicity Jones is open to returning to ‘Star Wars’.

The 41-year-old actress starred as Jyn Erso in 2016’s ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’, and although her character was killed off by the end of the film, Jones has now said she would consider reprising her role in a future project set before the events of the prequel film.

When Screen Rant asked ‘The Theory of Everything’ actress on whether she had completely shut the door on ‘Star Wars’, she said: “I mean, never say never.

“She's a pretty bad-a** character. Maybe she could come back as a hologram or something, which is completely possible in the ‘Star Wars’ universe.”

‘Rogue One’ - which also starred Diego Luna, Donnie Yen, Ben Mendelsohn and Mads Mikkelsen - followed a rag-tag team of rebels as they desperately try to steal the plans to the Galactic Empire’s new terrifying weapon, the Death Star.

This isn’t the first time Jones has commented on playing Jyn Erso again, as she previously teased she had some “unfinished business” with character.

Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter in 2020, the ‘On the Basis of Sex’ actress said: “I just keep saying that reincarnation is totally possible in the ‘Star Wars’ universe. So, I feel there’s unfinished business for Jyn, for sure.”

Jones added it would be “fascinating” to see her character take on the “dark forces” of the galaxy now that she was “older and wiser”.

She said: “I think it would be fascinating to see her getting older and wiser and fighting the dark forces in the universe, of which there are many it seems.”

While there are no current plans to bring Jones back to the franchise, the actress’ ‘Rogue One’ co-star Diego Luna - who played rebel agent Cassian Andor in the film - went on to helm his own Disney+ spin-off show ‘Andor’ in 2022.

The series - which also stars Adria Arjona, Stellan Skarsgard, Genevieve O’Reilly, Denise Gough and Andy Serkis - is set to receive a second season, which is slated to hit Disney+ in April 2025.

The second and final season will fill in the gaps between the first season and ‘Rogue One’ - which itself is a prequel to ‘Star Wars: Episode IV: A New Hope’ - and will bring back ‘Rogue One’ characters K-2SO (Alan Tudyk) and Director Orson Krennic (Mendelsohn).

Luna recently teased his rebel agent would be “fully committed” to the Rebellion in the upcoming season.

He told Empire magazine: “It’s someone who has to ascend. There’s a huge mountain for him to climb in order to [become] the guy we meet in ‘Rogue One’.”

The ‘Narcos: Mexico’ star added the next season would explore how Andor and his reprogrammed Imperial droid K-2SO first partnered up and started on their galaxy-sprawling escapades.

He said: “From an audience perspective, they’ve probably made their own story about how Cassian and K-2 got to work together.

“It tells you a lot about Cassian that his best friend is a droid. And a droid he had to reprogramme. But how did that actually happen and who was he before? Those questions are going to be answered.”
