Deadline report that Boyd Holbrook (star of Netflix series ’Narcos’ and ‘Gone Girl’) has been cast as the main villain in the third and final Wolverine solo movie, from returning ‘The Wolverine’ director James Mangold.

The 34-year old American model-turned-actor’s role has not been named, but reportedly his character is “a relentless, calculating and intense head of security for a global enterprise,” who is somehow in conflict with Jackman’s invulnerable mutant Logan.

He joins Jackman and Patrick Stewart, confirmed to appear again as Professor Xavier. They will be working from a screenplay by newcomer David James Kelly.

Multiple reports have claimed this third ‘Wolverine’ will seek to repeat the success of ‘Deadpool’ by aiming for an R-rating (meaning a 15 or potentially 18 certificate in the UK).

However, it remains unconfirmed as to whether, as rumoured, the film will be based on popular comic book story ‘Old Man Logan,’ which centres on an aged Wolverine in a post-apocalyptic future.

Rumours that Liev Schrieber may return as Sabretooth also remain unconfirmed.

The as-yet untitled movie is set to hit screens in March 2017. Before that, the ‘X-Men’ series continues with ‘X-Men: Apocalypse,’ in UK cinemas from 19 May.
